VaST Systems Technology and Gaia System Solutions Announce Initiative in Japan for Development of Automotive Electronics Using VaST Virtual System Prototyping Solutions
SUNNYVALE, California, November 28, 2005 — VaST Systems Technology Corporation, the embedded systems design automation company, today announced formation of The V-ECU (virtual electronic control unit) Club, a group of companies investing in virtual platforms for development of integrated electronics for the automotive industry. Members include Toyotsu Electronics, Toyota Techno Service Corporation, and Fujitsu TEN, along with VaST Systems Technology Corporations (VaST) and Gaia System Solutions.
VaST supplies the tools and models used by The V-ECU club for its virtual ECU solutions. Gaia System Solutions sells and supports VaST's solutions in Japan.
Industry research shows a sharp rise in the electronics content of automobiles, with complexity rising proportionately. Today's high-end automobiles have up to 70 ECUs connected by an average of five buses under the control of millions of lines of software interacting in real time. As BMW reported at the January 2004 Automotive Electronics Conference in San Diego, California, 50-70% of the development cost of an ECU is related to software and already 40% of a vehicle's cost is determined by electronics and software. These industry trends are driven by competitive forces that mandate improvements in vehicle drivability, emissions, fuel economy, safety, quality, and infotainment systems—all made economically feasible by the enormous computational power of embedded systems.
"VaST and Gaia are committed to providing strong technical support to improve the cost-effective development and networking of ECUs for the automotive industry in Japan," said Alain Labat, VaST's CEO and president. "VaST is supplying the technology through its Japan distributor, Gaia System Solutions, and The V-ECU Club is providing special pricing to car makers and their suppliers. Our close working relationship with Gaia and the Japanese automotive industry also will give VaST valuable feedback for on-going product development."
VaST's CoMET TM and Meteor tools, coupled with VaST fast and accurate models, provide an environment for the concurrent design of hardware and software for embedded systems and system-on-chip (SoC). With VaST solutions, customers can design, simulate, analyze, and optimize complex embedded systems as well as quantitatively evaluate performance while running real software applications. VaST technology is in use in over 30 companies worldwide in the semiconductor, automotive electronics, wireless devices, and consumer electronics industries. Users include Infineon, Agere, and Toshiba.
